ABOUT SILAPA
I'm a history buff
who loves to read and write about non-traditional
relationships with a psychological angle. My life has been
full of extremes so far having been born and raised in the
densely populated west coast and then spending some years in
isolation in the snow-covered mid-west.
Asides from being the average crazy Aquarius with more
creative energy than time would allow, I do slow down to
enjoy a cup of green tea and dream of ways to spend my
imaginary super-lotto winnings. I love chatting with people
so feel free to write me anytime.
INTERVIEW
Q: What is your ideal day like?
A: I prefer to spend my free time in the library researching my
interests which include all things Thai (Siamese) and Japanese
history (19th century to early 20th century). Rare books and
manuscripts have their own stories to tell and it's my job to
listen in on these long lost conversations. I'd have Thai food,
papaya salad with sticky rice, coconut ice cream and end the day
on the couch watching a suspense-thriller action movie while
drawing or noting down some plot bunnies.
Q: Do you have any unique hobbies and abilities?
A: I love every aspect of aqua-scaping which means putting
together a beautiful aquarium with live plants, animals, and
filtration system. I had to discontinue this past-time but I
still like to sketch out my idea of a gorgeous and practical
environment for fish, snails and turtles. My ultimate dream is
to design a semi-indoor pond which is exposed to natural light.
I've adopted or fostered many kinds of animals throughout my
life and my dream is to one day setup a reservation and rescue
for turtles. My special ability includes eating a gallon of any
flavor of ice cream without getting sick and staring at images
of gorgeous Asian men for hours on end. If being a fan girl
becomes a sport, I'd win a gold medal.
Q: How do you write?
A: Once a plot idea emerges in my mind, I add a psychological
angle and then quickly outline the story. No story is taboo or
too dark if the motivational groundwork has been laid out. My
time on the computer is not very consistent so I type ideas on a
hand-held device or write in a notebook. Finally, when I'm
confident that the idea is decent, I seek out appropriate music
for the story and characters and come up with a soundtrack which
I listen to while writing. The music keeps me “in the zone”. I
even seek visual inspiration by finding actors and models which
can portray my characters and create a desktop image or book
cover for my story.
Q: Can you imagine your story in other mediums?
A: I think most authors secretly wish to see their books as live
action movies. I can imagine my works as live action films or as
high quality animation. If I had the resources, I'd create
photographs, live music videos and other art which could
accompany my story. Sadly, my limited artistic abilities prevent
me from painting portraits of each character. For now, I'm happy
with providing websites for my story. Just visit me at my
website and check out the links for my works.
