ABOUT LARA

     Lara Santiago is the bestselling author of over twelve books. She's an Ecataromance award winner, a 2007 Passionate Plume finalist for The Lawman’s Wife, and has garnered a coveted four and half stars from Romantic Times Book Reviews for her novel, The Blonde Bomb Tech.
     From her futuristic novels to her contemporary romantic suspense, she's known for her independent heroines and those compelling alpha males we all adore.
     After turning in her twelfth manuscript, she came to the realization that this writing gig might just work out after all. She continues to dream up stories, keeping no less than ten story ideas circulating at any given time.

Q: Tell us about yourself.

A: Let’s see. I’m double jointed, I’m a math geek, and if you don’t believe me I’ll do a spreadsheet to prove it to you. But most of all, I love to tell stories. Oh, and I’m funny. LOL. One of my goals in life is to make people laugh.

Q: How do you get in the mood to write?

A: I’d say it isn’t as much a mood as a need. I have no less than ten story ideas floating in my head at one time, and when dialogue and scenes build up, they need to escape. I merely sit down and let them out. I guess it’s fair to say I’m always in the mood to write.

Q: Do you write every day? Stick to a rigid schedule?

A: I try to write every day, but life gets in the way (hey, check it out, I made a rhyme. Hee, hee!). I don’t stick to a rigid writing schedule unless I’m on a deadline. If something is due, I put butt in chair and fingers on keyboard until I’m finished.

Q: Where do your story ideas come from?

A: This is the question I get asked most often as a writer. My story ideas come from absolutely everywhere. I never know when a newspaper article, movie, television show, commercial, or a conversation between strangers ahead of me in a line will spark an idea for a story.
     For example, I thought up the premise of Just A Kiss while watching The Tonight show with Jay Leno.

Q: What is your favorite way to relax?

A: Relax? Is that even an option? I must write! Okay, okay in between writing books, I love to read and I adore going to the movies. I also watch way too much television since my cable company invented a way to record shows to watch later. Occasionally, I hang out with my family. They are pretty cool and very funny because a good sense of humor is a strict requirement in my household.

     Each man is handsome and sexy in his own way, but only one calls to Valerie’s heart more than the others, and only one really had me going as well. I can’t tell you which one, if you haven’t already guessed, as it was a surprise to me and that surprise is half the fun of this story.
     I loved the cast of characters, especially the secondary characters! Meeting so many new people, including a group of aliens with rather unoriginal names, which was quite a bit of their charm let me tell you, was quite a bit of fun. I have to say that I adored Daisy and am hoping to see her full story soon… or next… please! I would love to see more of this incredible world and the people who inhabit it.

There was quite a bit more emotional depth here than I thought there'd be, along with quite a bit of humor and a fairly well drawn story arc. There are certain rules Valerie has to follow besides having relations with each guy twice a month. She has to cook them breakfast and isn't allowed to work, which annoys the crap out of her (me? I could probably deal with being loved by five men and just chillin' at home all day, but whatever). She meets a friend, Daisy, and the two of them stir up mischief together. They keep getting called before the "council", which are three aliens who monitor what goes on inside the starship. And the killer will kill anyone that gets in the way, no matter who it is.

Ms. Santiago knows how to capture her readers and keep them entertained until the very last word and demanding more. Grace’s character suffered a horrible sexual encounter when she was a teenager that left her emotional scared by sex. I enjoyed the way Grace was able to overcome the challenges that she had and was able to be a wonderful mother. There were times when Grace appeared to be naïve, but as I continued to read I noticed that she was doing everything to protect her child from harm -even appearing to be meek to the man she thought was her husband of convenience, Danny Cox. Jon was also a strong character overcoming his genetic enhancement received as a teenager, instead of turning into a sexual vampire he focused on keeping his sexual needs at bay with the help of medication. The sexual chemistry between Grace and Jon was sizzling from the moment they met in the elevator. Jon was aware of Grace’s sexual history and didn’t want to alarm her with his desire, but [imagine] his surprise when Grace turned into the sexual aggressor in their relationship. Just Smoking!!!!
